Youth and Government participants engage in experiential learning of government processes, generally through mock legislative, executive and judicial proceedings. Through INYaG, students develop an understanding of local, state, national, and international concerns; research, study and debate on public issues; explore careers in public service; interact with adult and youth leaders involved in decision-making processes; gain an understanding of political systems and the forum they provide for the effective and peaceful resolution of issues and concerns; gain an appreciation for the diversity of viewpoints on public issues and a concurrent respect for ideas, beliefs and the positions of others; and demonstrate citizenship responsibilities and leadership roles essential to the health of participatory democracy.

Through Y Achievers Program, youth gain a sense of self, raise their academic standards, build character, develop cultural competence skills, gain exposure to diverse career opportunities, engage in community service opportunities and receive hands-on service learning and field experiences. Y Achievers participate in an education-based mentoring program designed to holistically develop youth in grades 9–12 to their fullest potential.
As a part of the program, students are required to meet every Tuesday from 4:00 PM – 4:45 PM at the Avondale Meadows YMCA. The cohort will begin August 15,2023 – December 13, 2023.
This opportunity is free for the first 25 students to register.

The Y Empowerment Zone After School program is more than child care. We offer structured activities that are age-appropriate while encouraging a fun and active way to extend learning from the classroom. Our program supports academic achievement, fosters health and wellness, instills positive social and emotional learning and creates opportunities for young people and families to belong and connect.
After School Hours: Dismissal until 6:00 p.m.

Young Men of Distinction (YMOD)

Young Men of Distinction (YMOD), is a experiential learning program geared towards middle school boys. This highly interactive program curriculum is designed to include character & leadership development, entrepreneurship education, career and post-secondary exploration and social emotional wellness activities.
We empower our young men; helping them understand their power of choice, which enables them to make the best use of the tools available to them. “A Boys and Young Men of Color (BYMOC) Initiative” The BYMOC Initiative is about the YMCA investing in boys of color, to improve their well-being and pave a pathway to success for them.
